About Us

Smooth Combat Academy is Bury, Manchester's fastest growing martial arts and combat sports training centre. Offereing professional level coaching in MMA, BJJ, Muay Thai and boxing for everyone from the absolute beginner to the seasoned competitive athlete.

Head Coach Sam Spencer is a professional MMA figher with over a decade of competitive experience, and a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt under 3rd degree black belt, Gavin Boardman at Manchester Predators.

What We Do

We offer cutting-edge combat sports coaching for anyone in the area wanting to learn martial arts.

 

Located at our state-of-the-art facility in Bury, Manchester, we ensure new members are welcomed into a warm, friendly environment in which to learn Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and Boxing.

 

Our members also have access to a fully equipped strength and conditioning gym to progress athletically alongside their technical martial arts training.

If you are looking to compete, want to meet new people or just want to start a new hobby, then our coaches will be on hand to guide and support you every step of the way, from your very first session to wherever your training takes you.

Our Mission

We firmly believe that combat sports should be for everyone. One of our main focuses at the gym is to remove the common barriers of entry for those looking to get started in martial arts.

 

Many people feel daunted by the idea of walking into a potentially intimidating environment with no prior experience, we aim to make sure everybody is made to feel safe, supported and welcome from the moment they arrive.

 

Our carefully structured programme ensures that even those attending the gym for their first ever martial arts lesson will feel comfortable and confident by the end of the class.

 

Each of our sessions are meticulously planned out and structured to ensure every drill and exercise is completely scalable to your current level of fitness and technical ability. Nobody should feel lost or overwhelmed on the mat, and we go out of our way to ensure that this is the case!

At SCA, we believe that developing solid foundations is the key to later success, and at our gym, our experienced members are actively encouraged to help and support those just getting started with their training. This helps facilitate rapid learning for everyone, and fosters a real sense of camaraderie and community on the mat. 

Whether you have you heart set on competition, or you simply want to train for fun and fitness, you will find what you need on our mat. We train hard, we push each other and we have a laugh.

Those with big ego's and attitude problems are not welcome to train with us. Leave your ego at the door and come and get involved!
